Southern Humboldt Indians with Jerry Rohde

Based on Volume 2 of Jerry’s “History of Humboldt County People and Places” series, this virtual presentation will describe the six tribes that occupied southern Humboldt until the 1850s-1860s. Indian genocide nearly eliminated all of them. Jerry will also explain how a handful of survivors were interviewed by ethnographers and how that knowledge of tribal history and culture was partly preserved.
