Shades of California: The Hidden Beauty of Ordinary Life, California's Family Album
The images shown in this intriguing work were collected during the California State Library's effort to create a family archive. Residents throughout California brought their favorite family photos to libraries where those photographs were copied for the state-wide collection. Humboldt County images include Tony Shafer of Shafer's Hardware in Eureka, a 1913 Fortuna High School girls' basketball team, scores of folks digging for clams at Clam Beach and fishermen off their catch of salmon from Redwood Creek.
